» Press Releases Elmshorn. BlueBioTech International GmbH, situated in Elmshorn near Hamburg (Deutschland) is engaged in the cultivation of micro algae for commercial and scientific purposes. In the meantime, the company has also launched, utilizing its expertise of 20 years of own research, amongst other things, products for the field of human nutrition, to the market. Beyond that, algae are also offered as feed, especially in the area of aquaristics. Further applications can also be found in cosmetics, medicine and technology. A self-developed technology stands behind the production, with which our biologists, chemists and physicists have been able to determine the ideal living conditions for micro algae. In the production and research station in Büsum at the North Sea, the professionals further optimize the cultivation environments of water plants and test the cultivation of algae types using natural resources for the various areas of application.The capacities of the facilities in Büsum are not large enough to fulfill the great market demand. Therefore, BlueBioTech International produces larger amounts of Spirulina and Chlorella (the names of the most important micro algae species) within the framework of a joint venture in China. “The climatic conditions at the certified algae farm are excellent. The water, in which the algae grow, comes from a depth of 120 meters. It can’t be any purer!” The micro algae “Spirulina” strengthens the general well-being, further positive influences in regard to the vitality of human beings are regarded as safe. The reason: numerous valuable proteins, vitamins and trace elements in a balance form can be found in Spirulina. The bioavailability is high, which means that the body has no problems of taking in what it needs. Thus, many people treasure micro algae as a valuable dietary supplement. In November 2001, BlueBioTech was awarded the „Schmidt-Römhild Technology Award“ for excellent performance in the development and realization of economically valuable and future-oriented technologies and techniques. The company came in 2 nd in the “Founder of a New Business-Competition 2001” in Schleswig-Holstein and in April 2004, BlueBioTech was awarded the title „Founder Champion 2004“.
